The international co-production ALMA UND OSKAR is being filmed under the direction of Dieter Berner until 10 August. The story of a love between Alma Mahler (Emily Cox), the widow of the world-famous composer Gustav Mahler, and the young artist Oskar Kokoschka (Valentin Postlmayr) is as passionate as it is threatening to her existence.
In addition to locations in Schleswig-Holstein, filming will take place in Vienna, Lower Austria, Prague and Switzerland. Produced by Wiener Film AG, Hamburg-based Wüste Film, Swiss Turnus Film and Dawson Films from Prague. Supported by MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, in cooperation with ZDF and distributed by Alamode.

Investigative journalist Imke Leopold is on the trail of a supposedly illegal real estate deal on the island of Norderney. When she asks Thorsten Falke for help in clearing up the matter, the inspector of the federal police reacts skeptically at first. When Imke is the victim of an attack shortly afterwards, which she survives only by luck, Falke regrets his hesitation and asks his colleague Julia Grosz to investigate with him on the island. Does the attack have something to do with a large-scale construction project that was waved through due to the approval of some local politicians on the island? The Norderney-based lawyer and real estate agent who set up the deal and hinted at it to Imke unfortunately fails to turn up as an informant. Falke and Grosz find him beaten to death in his house…

On December 16, filming on the ARD Degeto thriller “The Protector” (WT) wrapped in Hamburg Altona under the direction of Philipp Osthus. The main roles are played by Tobias Oertel as bodyguard Jan Schäfer and Marlene Tanczik as opaque key witness Fiona Weibel. The ensemble is completed by Slavko Popadic, Sabrina Amali, Sascha Weingarten and many others. The script was written by Michael Ehnert and Oke Stielow. Frank Küpper was behind the camera.

About the content:
Jan Schäfer is a personal security officer at the BKA. Fiona – the key witness currently under Schäfer’s protection – has to testify before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg. Particularly delicate: Fiona works in the management of a Swiss shipping company and is said to be using insider knowledge to heavily incriminate her own employer. The shipping company is accused of illegally transporting toxic substances, disguised as fertilizers, to Libya, where they are used to produce toxic gas.

To keep Fiona safe until the trial, Schäfer and his colleague Yannick take her into their custody. But as soon as they pick up the witness at the airport, they realize they are being followed. Through a clever diversionary maneuver, they manage to escape the pursuers. But is that enough to get Fiona to safety? Again and again, the trio is in danger of being discovered and the operation blown. Is the witness playing a double game? Or is there even a leak in the ranks of their own colleagues?

Germany 2029: Star journalist Johann Hellström (Tobias Moretti) is banned from writing and retreats with his wife Lucia (Valery Tscheplanowa) to their luxurious vacation home on an island. As the political situation in Germany escalates, the smarthome transforms more and more from a peaceful refuge to a dangerous adversary…

The successful director Rick Ostermann (“Das Boot”, “Dengler – Fremde Wasser”, “Krieg” aka “Fremder Feind”) has filmed the future thriller “Das Haus” in Sweden near Stockholm and in Hamburg. The main shoot was from October 27 to December 7. Björn Vosgerau and Uwe Kolbe of Wüste Medien GmbH are producing the film in co-production with NDR, ARTE and rbb. Ostermann also wrote the screenplay together with Patrick Brunken (among others SWR “Tatort: Sonnenwende”). It is based on a short story by journalist Dirk Kurbjuweit. The story was published last year in the collection “2029 – Geschichten von Morgen” (“2029 – Stories of Tomorrow”), edited by Suhrkamp Verlag, NDR, SWR and Futurium. “The House” will be shown on ARTE and the German public broadcaster Das Erste next year, following a theatrical release distributed by not.sold Hamburg, and will be shown in the ARD Mediathek.

About the story: Germany 2029. Political journalist Johann Hellström is banned from his profession after an important source in his last article turns out to be a false informant. Hellström believes it was an act of sabotage by the increasingly authoritarian government, but also bitterly reproaches his editor-in-chief Paschke (Hans-Jochen Wagner) for not protecting him. Together with his wife Lucia, Johann retreats to their luxurious and fully digitalized weekend home on an idyllic island. While political conditions in the country continue to destabilize due to a terrorist attack, their “smarthome” develops more and more a life of its own. It manipulates the couple and plays them off against each other by revealing intimate secrets. Finally, when two regime critics, wanted throughout Germany, seek shelter with Lucia, the situation in the house escalates completely. Johann is torn between his love for Lucia and the feeling of having been betrayed by her: Who can he still trust?

Other roles are played by Lisa Vicari, Max von der Groeben, Samir Fuchs and Daniel Krauss.

Behind the camera was Stefan Ciupek, production design: KD Gruber, production management: Björn Eggert. The commissioning editors are Sabine Holtgreve (NDR), Andreas Schreitmüller (ARTE) and Verena Veihl (RBB). The production of “The House” was funded by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein. The theatrical release is distributed by not.sold Hamburg, internationally the thriller is distributed by The Playmaker.

On the occasion of the anniversary this year, a screening of our Fatih Akin classic “Head On” will take place on 17 February 2020 at 7.30 pm at the Zoo Palast Berlin. We are especially looking forward to the following stage talk: Director Fatih Akin will tell Carlo Chatrian, the Artistic Director of the Berlinale, about the importance of the Bear and Lola for his further artistic work, how festivals can accelerate an international career and what he feels when he sees “Head On” on the screen 16 years later.

A contract killing in the red light milieu shakes the Hamburg district. During the investigation Thorsten Falke meets his old buddy Lübke and is confronted with his own St. Pauli past and personal memories of his time as a young bouncer. In the face of prostitution and modern human trafficking, Julia Grosz is alien to any nostalgic ties with the hood. Together they hunt down the contract killer and his backers before the smouldering war in the red light district escalates. Falke’s old friend and mentor, Lübke, a veteran of the milieu, turns out to be more and more of a tricky opponent…
