Filming of our six-part series “The Roots of Evil” has begun in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Filming is also taking place in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Sachsen-Anhalt. Stephan Rick is directing, and head writer Catharina Junk and writer Elke Schuch are responsible for the screenplays.
An East German detective (Henriette Confurius) and her new partner from Hamburg (Fahri Yardim) follow a serial killer whose trail leads them into the dark depths of the German-German past. There they come across a previously undiscovered, bizarre series of murders.
RTL+ is on board as a partner and plans to show “The Roots of Evil” in 2023. Federation Entertainment will be responsible for international sales. The series is supported by MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, MV Filmförderung, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), Verwertungsgesellschaft Rundfunk Österreich and the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF).
