The cast, even down to minor characters, exudes an ambivalence that makes it so convincing. The policeman Mehmet Mutlu longing for the German homeland that he lost or the policewoman Maria Sombert who is almost torn apart by the courage to speak the truth and the fear of being ostracised. “
